Located in Sydney, Australia, the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) is a public research university which has its origin traced back to 1833. Founded as Sydney Mechanics' School of Arts, the School formed the Workingman's College in the 1870s. Later on, the College was taken over by the NSW government to build the Sydney Technical College in the year 1882. 

Later on, in the year 1964, following the Act passed by the NSW Parliament to establish an Institute of Technology, the New South Wales Institute of Technology (NSWIT) was created. Subsequently, on 8 October 1987, the NSWIT was granted its university status with regards to the University of Technology, Sydney, Act 1987.  Finally, in the year 1988, following the amalgamation of the School of Design of the former Sydney College of the Arts with the NSWIT, the institute was reconstituted and named as the University of Technology Sydney (UTS).
